Comprehensive Eye Care Services
At Asheville Vision and Wellness, we offer a wide range of services designed to protect, preserve, and enhance your vision. Our comprehensive approach ensures that all aspects of your eye health are addressed with care and expertise.
Comprehensive Eye Examinations
The cornerstone of our practice is thorough, comprehensive eye examinations that go far beyond simple vision screening. During your exam, our optometrists utilize advanced diagnostic equipment to evaluate:
- Visual acuity and refractive status (determining your prescription for glasses or contacts)
- Eye muscle coordination and balance
- Peripheral vision assessment
- Intraocular pressure measurement for glaucoma screening
- Detailed examination of all eye structures, including the retina and optic nerve
- Color vision testing when indicated
- Depth perception evaluation
Our comprehensive exams are customized to your unique needs, taking into account your age, medical history, previous eye conditions, and specific visual demands. We take the time to understand how you use your eyes in daily life—whether for detailed computer work, active sports, or artistic pursuits—to provide recommendations tailored to your lifestyle.
Regular eye examinations are crucial not only for maintaining clear vision but also for detecting potential eye health issues before they become serious problems. Many eye conditions, including glaucoma and macular degeneration, develop gradually with few symptoms until significant damage has occurred. Early detection through comprehensive exams is your best defense against vision loss.
Medical Testing and Management
Beyond routine examinations, our practice offers specialized medical testing and management for a variety of eye conditions, including:
- Glaucoma screening and monitoring
- Cataract evaluation and management
- Macular degeneration assessment
- Diabetic eye examinations
- Dry eye evaluation and treatment
- Management of various ocular diseases
Our office is equipped with advanced technology that allows for detailed assessment of eye health, including:
- Corneal Topography to screen for and assess Keratoconus.
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for cross-sectional imaging of the retina
- Optomap Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging capturing panoramic views of the retina
- Macular Pigment Density Testing to assess risk for macular degeneration
- Slit Lamp Testing for detailed examination of eye structures
- Visual Fields Testing to check for blind spots and peripheral vision issues
This advanced technology enables our doctors to detect and monitor eye conditions with unprecedented precision, often identifying potential problems before they affect your vision.
Contact Lens Services
For patients interested in contact lenses, we offer comprehensive contact lens evaluations and fittings. Our expertise extends to all types of contact lenses, including:
- Daily disposable lenses
- Multifocal contacts for presbyopia
- Toric lenses for astigmatism
- Color contacts for those wanting to enhance or change eye color
Our contact lens services begin with a thorough evaluation to determine the optimal lens type for your eyes and lifestyle. We take precise measurements and assess factors like tear film quality and corneal health to recommend the most appropriate options. For first-time contact lens wearers, we provide detailed instruction on proper insertion, removal, and care techniques to ensure comfortable, healthy lens wear.
LASIK and Cataract Surgery Evaluation
For patients considering surgical vision correction, we offer evaluations for LASIK and other refractive procedures. While we don't perform these surgeries in our office, we provide comprehensive pre-operative assessments and refer qualified candidates to Woolfson Eye Institute, a trusted partner with an excellent reputation for surgical outcomes.
We also provide post-operative care for patients who have undergone LASIK or cataract surgery, working collaboratively with the surgical team to ensure optimal healing and visual results.
Dry Eye Treatment
Dry eye syndrome is an increasingly common condition that can significantly impact comfort and vision quality. At Asheville Vision and Wellness, we offer specialized evaluation and treatment for dry eyes, including:
- Comprehensive assessment of tear quality and quantity
- Identification of underlying causes
- Recommendations for environmental modifications
- Advanced treatments for more severe cases
Our approach to dry eye management is comprehensive, addressing both symptomatic relief and treatment of underlying causes for long-term improvement.
Diabetes Eye Health
Patients with diabetes face unique eye health challenges, including increased risk of diabetic retinopathy—a leading cause of vision loss. Our practice provides specialized diabetic eye examinations to detect early signs of diabetes-related eye damage.
These examinations include detailed assessment of the retinal blood vessels and comprehensive evaluation of overall eye health. Early detection of diabetic eye changes can prevent or minimize vision loss through timely intervention and management.
Eye Health Counseling
Preventive care is essential for maintaining long-term eye health. Our doctors provide personalized eye health counseling, including:
- Nutritional guidance for optimal eye health
- Strategies for protecting eyes from UV and blue light damage
- Recommendations for workplace eye safety
- Education about managing eye conditions
- Guidance on digital device use to minimize eye strain
This educational component of our care helps empower patients to take an active role in protecting their vision for years to come.

Advanced Technology for Precise Diagnosis
At Asheville Vision and Wellness, we've invested in state-of-the-art diagnostic technology that enables our doctors to detect eye conditions earlier and with greater precision than ever before. This commitment to technological advancement translates to better outcomes and more personalized care for our patients.
Our practice features an impressive array of diagnostic instruments, including:
- Corneal Topography to screen for and assess Keratoconus.
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT): Provides detailed cross-sectional images of the retina, similar to an MRI of the eye, allowing for precise diagnosis and monitoring of conditions affecting the retina and optic nerve.
- Optomap Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging: Captures a panoramic digital image of the retina, providing an extensive view of the retinal surface without the discomfort of dilation for many patients.
- Macular Pigment Density Testing: Measures protective pigment in the macula to assess risk for age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of vision loss in older adults.
- AdaptDx Pro for AMD: Measures dark adaptation speed, which may indicate the presence of age-related macular degeneration up to three years earlier than other tests.
These advanced diagnostic tools allow our doctors to provide more accurate diagnoses, develop more effective treatment plans, and monitor eye conditions with greater precision than traditional methods alone.
